Sunshine Girl Kadie-Ann Dehaney named Rookie of the Year in Suncorp League

Sunshine Girl Kadie-Ann Dehaney says she was elated to be named Rookie of the Year after her season with the Meblourne Vixens in the Suncorp Super Netball League in Australia. Dehaney in her second season with the vixens, was given the accolade after her impressive performances which saw her recording 39 deflections and 15 interceptions, making her one of the top defensive players in the league.

The former Berger Elite League MVP captained the Under-17 Sunshine girls as well as the Under 21's but has only represented the senior team once, back in 2015. However, Dehaney is hopeful she can get the call for the team's next set of assignments, including the Fast 5 tournament in October.

Meanwhile, Sunshine Girls captain Jhaniele Fowler-Reid was named in the team of the season in her debut season for runners-up West Coast Fever. Fowler-Reid led the league with a whopping 783 goals, 200 more than her closest rival and fellow Jamaican Romelda Aiken with 575 goals with the Queensland Firebirds. Another Jamaican Shimona Nelson, playing for the Adelaide Thunderbirds, was 6th with 418 goals.  However, Aiken led the league in most offensive rebounds with 61. Fowler-Reid was second with 35 and nelson fourth with 27.

It was 4 fewer medals than they won last year.

The team finished 3rd overall behind winners the Dominican Republic and runners-up Trinidad and Tobago.

As part of his role as an ambassador, Sammy will be included in a variety of public activities including community activities, photo sessions at venues and will make appearances with the players where applicable.
