"Tegat" Davis returns to MBU as head coach

Former national player Paul 'Tegat' Davis has been appointed the new head coach of Jamaica Premier League (JPL) team Montego Bay United. The club made the announcement via its instagram page on Monday evening.

In what has been a whirlwind last few days at the western club, 62 year old Davis replaces Argentine Rodolfo Zapata who parted ways with the club via mutual agreement last Saturday.  Davis also represented Seba United which is now Montego Bay United, in his playing days.

This will be his second coaching stint with the club having guided them to the National Premier League title in 2016.

The experienced Davis has also had previous coaching stints in the Premier League at Mount Pleasant between 2017-2021, and Arnett Gardens from 2010 to 2012 as well as from 2021 to 2023. He takes over at Mo Bay United with the club sitting third in the JPL on 48 points.

Meanwhile, in addition to Davis, Andrew Peart, the coach of Glenmuir High was also named as Technical Director on Monday night.

The first assignment for Davis and Peart could be Thursday's clash against Racing United at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Meanwhile, Montego Bay United turned back Tivoli gardens 3-1 in the second game of a JPL double header at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Monday night to ensure they stayed within touching distance of the top two. They moved to 48 points., while Tivoli stayed 8th on 30 points. 

Leaders Mount Pleasant FA swamped Humble Lion 5-0 in the first game of the double header at the venue to maintain their seven point lead atop the standings.

With the win, Mount Pleasant moved to 58 points, while Humble Lion remained at the foot of the table on 15 points.
