Despite half centuries from Jahmar Hamilton with 73 and Rahkeem Cornwall 59, the West Indies Cricket Board President's X1 went down by two wickets to the touring English team in a warm-up match at Warner Park in St Kitts and Nevis.
Batting first, the WICB President's X1 recovered from 48-5 to post 233 in 48 overs. Jamaican Andre McCarthy fell for a duck. The recovery was led by captain Hamilton and Cornwall who added 123 for the 6th wicket.
Kyle Mayers chipped in with 33 against Ben Stokes with 3-35 and Liam Plunkett 3-44 for the English.
Johnny Bairstow top-scored with 86 as the tourists successfully chased 234 to win with two wickets and seven balls to spare. Chris Woakes made 47 not out while Joe Root struck 46. There were two wickets each for Andre McCarthy, Damion Jacobs and Ronsford Beaton.
England are preparing for the three match One Day International series against the West Indies. Those matches will be played on March 3 and 5 in Antigua and March 9 at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
