West Indies clips India to make it two from two

West Indies held on in a tense finish to defeat india in the second game of the tri-nation One-Day International cricket series at Sabina Park on Sunday.

Scores in the match: India, 229-7; West Indies, 230-9.

The top performer for West Indiea and man-of-the-match was Johnson Charles who made 97 and figured in a century stand with Darren Bravo. When he was dismissed, caught Sharma, bowled Yadav, with the score on 211, however, victory for the Windies was far from assured; they were now eight wickets down with 19 runs still to get.

The home supporters were plunged into deeper despair, when the 9th wicket, that of Sunil Narine, fell at 220, leaving the last pair in, Kemar Roach and Tino Best, with the nerve wracking task of taking the team to victory. The two Barbadians, known more for their roles with the ball, held their nerves and completed the task, leaving the fans relieved and jumping for joy.

West Indies star batsman, Chris Gayle, did not manage to repeat his match winning century in the first match of the series against Sri Lanka on Friday, falling for 11 in the second over. He was quickly followed back to the dressing room by Devon Smith, no score, and Marlon Samuels, one, with the score then 26-3.

The two youngest batsmen in the team - Bravo and Charles - then came together in a century partnership that would lay the foundation for the narrow win secured by the home team. Bravo made 55 before he became the fourth batsman out with the score on 142.

India, batting first, failed to adjust to the pitch conditions and ended on 229-7, a score that was not in keeping with the World Champions' expectations. Opener, Rohit Sharma, top scored for the visitors with 60 runs.
