The West Indies women’s cricket team geared up for their series against New Zealand with a 7 wicket victory over the Canterbury Women’s team in Lincoln on Thursday. After being sent in to bat, the Canterbury Women’s team posted 216-5 from their 50 overs with Evelyn Jones top-scoring with 98.
Grenadian Afy Fletcher was the pick of the bowlers for the Caribbean side with 3-44 from 10 overs. In reply, the visitors got to their target with 16 overs to spare thanks to an unbeaten 70 run knock from Barbadian Kycia Knight.
Hayley Matthews contributed 61 while the Jamaican pair of Chedean Nation and Stafanie Taylor added 55 and 3 respectively. The West Indies women will get into action on Sunday when they face New Zealand in the first of three 50 over matches, followed by five T20 games.
