Young Reggae Boyz qualify for FIFA U17 World Cup

Voice of JFF president Michael Ricketts

Jamaica's young Reggae Boyz are heading to the FIFA Men's Under-17 World Cup after a 3-1 victory over Canada in their CONCACAF Group “G” top of the table qualifier in Costa Rica on Wednesday. Needing only a draw to secure their spot in Qatar this November, the young Reggae Boyz left nothing to chance.

Jahmarie Nolan opened the scoring in the 37th minute, while Jamone Lyle extended the lead in the 53rd, before Canada pulled one back through van parker in the 71st minute.

However, Jaheem Bennett struck two minutes into stoppage time to seal the win and top Group “G” with maximum 9 points, confirming Jamaica's place on the global stage. Canada ended the game with 10 players.

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president Michael Ricketts told Radio Jamaica Sports the team's qualification is the culmination of direct planning by all involved.

This is the third time that Jamaica is earning qualification to the Under-17 Men's World Cup after previously doing so in 1999 and 2011.
