Windies beat England to move closer to Super 8 stage of ICC T20 World Cup

Voice of West Indies T20 captain Shai Hope

West Indies captain Shai Hope says the team got things right with the bat for a positive result, as they registered their second victory at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, beating England by 30 runs on Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India.

The Windies posted 196-6 off 20 overs after being sent in to bat.

They were led by an unbeaten 76 off 42 balls, including 2 fours and 7 sixes from Player of the Match, Sherfane Rutherford, 34 off 29 deliveries from Roston Chase and a swashbuckling 33 from just 17 balls by Jason Holder whose knock included 4 sixes and a four.

Rutherford and Holder shared a 6th wicket stand of 61, in helping the team to recover from a perilous position of 77-4 in the 10th over.

Jamie Overton and Adil Rashid claimed 2 wickets each for England.

Gudakesh Motie then masterminded England's demise by grabbing 3-33, while Chase had 2-29, as England who were set 197 to win, were dismissed for 166 with an over to spare. Sam Curran top scored with an unbeaten 43, while Jacob Bethell and Phil Salt got 33 and 30 respectively.

Hope lauded Player of the Match Rutherford for his performance, saying it's as a result of the right approach to honing his skills.

The West Indies are on top of Group "C" with 4 points from two matches and can secure their spot in the Super 8 phase with victory over Nepal on Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium.
