With gold trading at a record high of more than US$3,000 per ounce, mining company Barrick Gold says it will start drilling for gold and copper in Jamaica by the end of this year.
This, in conjunction with local company Geophysx, with which it entered into a partnership last year.
Geophysx, which is owned by Robert Stewart, son of entrepreneur Gordon Butch Stewart, recently pumped significant sums into the development of a comprehensive map of the island's ore deposits.
It has multiple licences from the Ministry of Mining to explore and drill for precious metals In Jamaica.
Barrick Gold is the world's second largest gold mining company.
