Following reports of inconsistent grain and moisture content in rice, the Bureau of Standards of Jamaica has released new standards for importation for the $9 billion sector.
The general public will be able to voice their concerns on the matter over a 60-day period that ends in August.
A report published on BSJ's website last month classified the characteristics, established requirements, general conditions, and various factors used in the determination of the quality of rice.
The report speaks to the rice's meeting safety standards for human consumption, packaging, and the authority's testing of samples.
