US Treasury Secretary calls for reforms at IMF, World Bank

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says although the US, which is the major shareholder in the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, is still committed to funding the organisations, it wants to see changes.

For example, Bessent says these two organisations must bring the world economy into a better balance or else the USA will have to review its contributions.

The IMF and the World Bank, which provide balance of payments and technical support as well as infrastructure and development funding, were crafted under the 1944 Bretton Woods Agreement.
