Playwright Barry Reckord died Tuesday morning [December 20] at the age of 85.
Mr. Reckord passed away at his brother's home in Boscobel, St. Mary.
He was among the first modern playwrights to be published in England at a time when black writers were being discovered there.
In 1953 he wrote his first play "Della" which was produced at the Wrad Theatre in Kingston.
He went on to write 13 more plays for radio and television and the stage.
He also wrote for the British Broadcasting Corporation.
His first collection of plays titled "For the Record" was released last last year.
He also wrote the play "Does Fidel Eat More than your Father" based on his experiences in Cuba.
