ABMs low on cash due to service disruption

Septimus Blake, President of the Jamaica Bankers Association

The Jamaica Bankers Association says the disruption in the delivery of cash to ABMs resulted in a 50 per cent drop in cash availability across the island.

Security guards attached to Beryllium withdrew their services today to protest the attack on three of their colleagues this morning which left one dead and two others nursing gunshot wounds.

This resulted in banks served by the company not receiving deliveries of cash and cash machines not being replenished.

Crowds of people and long lines could be seen at some ABMs visited by Radio Jamaica News while others were out of cash.

Septimus Blake, President of the Jamaica Bankers Association, said he has received word that normality should return to the system Tuesday.
