Alric Campbell, Dr. Alfred Dawes vie for PNP candidacy in St. Catherine SE

By Kimone Witter

Councillor of the Edgewater Division, Alric Campbell, has thrown his hat into the ring to become the People's National Party standard bearer in St. Catherine South Eastern.

Mr. Campbell launched his campaign in Portmore on Sunday.

He is seeking to end the tenure of first time Member of Parliament Robert Miller, who he says has been found wanting.

Mr. Campbell outlined his vision for the constituency including having discussions with the Heart School of Construction in Portmore to carry out community engagements and having young people being accredited with skills through the HEART/NSTA Trust Apprenticeship programme.

He further stated that he will be lobbying the government to have the Portmore Community College receive university status.

Mr. Campbell has received support from Member of Parliament for St. Catherine Southern Fitz Jackson and Mayor of Portmore Leon Thomas.

Political newcomer and Medical Director of Windsor Wellness Centre, Dr. Alfred Dawes, is also eyeing the St. Catherine South Eastern seat.

In a release Monday, Dr. Dawes said he will be looking to improve the standard of living for the constituents.

He revealed that he lived in Portmore for some time and now has his practice there. He said the constituency is the perfect place to begin his journey toward community and nation building.

Mr. Campbell and Dr. Dawes are expected to face the internal Integrity Commission of the PNP. Once that is completed, a vote will be carried out within the constituency for a decision on who will be the candidate in the next general elections.
