Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie
Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie says an audit is to be conducted of the remaining standpipes across the island out of concern that they continue to be commercialised.
Similar to the comments he made in 2017 when another audit of the system was announced, Mr. McKenzie said the standpipes are not being used for their intended purposes.
Addressing an audience in Manchester on Friday, Mr. McKenzie said people are using the water to either wash cars or for resale.
"Well, we are now doing an audit of all standpipes across the island, and once we have completed those audits, the local authorities will be put in a position to take the necessary steps to reduce the waste that is being generated by those who are using the water and using the water illegally," he promised.
