Bermuda: Authorities seeking to extradite Atlanta music promoter who defrauded gov't

The Bermudan authorities are seeking to extradite an American who defaulted on a US$800,000 loan from the Bermuda government.

The American, Anthony Blakey, a music promoter from Atlanta, Georgia, secured a loan from the government in 2018 to set up a recording studio on the island.

But the project never got off the ground, and Blakey disappeared and is believed to be on the run in the United States.

Extradition proceedings have started to bring him back to Bermuda, where he faces a charge of obtaining a money transfer by deception.

A demand for payment notice issued in June 2019 said Blakey had defaulted on $778,000 of the loan.
