Construction Industry Council wants compliance with building codes

Ahead of  a tour scheduled for Saturday by Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie, more concern is being raised about Tuesday's building collapse at the Royalton Hotel construction site in Hanover.

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) says it hopes McKenzie will ensure there is compliance with the Development Orders and Building Code.

Additionally, the CIC wants Local Authorities to require all overseas developers carrying out construction work in Jamaica to include local professionals to ensure that codes and regulations are adhered to.

The Local Government Minister is scheduled  to tour the site of  the building collapse and meet with the three member investigative team, on Saturday afternoon.

He will also meet with the principals of  the Royalton and the technical team from the Hanover Parish Council to discuss the findings of  the investigation and provide recommendations to chart the way forward.
