Consumers urged to adjust to higher cost of living

Communications Specialist at the Consumer Affairs Commission, Dorothy Campbell, has warned consumers to get accustomed to the increasing cost of living.

She argued that consumers will have to change their lifestyles and consumption patterns permanently in order to cope.

Ms. Campbell suggested doing backyard gardening in order to reduce the amount of ground provisions they have to buy, adding that consumers may have to develop new tastes so they can do without some of the canned and other foods they usually buy at the supermarket.

The CAC executive further suggested that consumers cook more meals at home rather than eating out at fast food outlets, which is more expensive.

She recommended that supermarkets customers get loyalty cards and buy in bulk through groups in order to save on food prices, which jumped by 12.4 per cent during the period September of last year to September of this year.
