Court fines persons charged with possession of identity information

Two of  three persons who were charged with possession of  identity information were fined when they appeared in the St Elizabeth Circuit Court on Thursday.

The third individual Rushina Banton was freed after the prosecution offered no further evidence.

The other two accused, Sherman Adams and Arlando Smith, pleaded guilty.

Adams was fined $450,000 or 3 years imprisonment while Smith was fined $400,000 or 3 years behind bars.

Adams was arrested on May 16, 2016 during a police operation in Black River, St. Elizabeth.

He was found in possession of  several lead sheets containing names and personal information of  persons living overseas.

Smith and Banton were taken into custody on September 9, 2017 when a property they occupied was searched.
