Dean-Roy Bernard to be reinstated as Permanent Secretary

Dean-Roy Bernard, who was relieved of his position as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education & Youth, and demoted to the post of Director-General in the Ministry of Finance and The Public Service, is to be reinstated as Permanent Secretary.

This decision came on Wednesday in a ruling by the Supreme Court.

Mr Bernard's reassignment occurred in the wake of the Caribbean Maritime University scandal involving then Education Minister Ruel Reid.

He was appointed in 2016.

Mr Bernard's Attorney, Marc Williams, speaking on Radio Jamaica’s Beyond the Headlines, said the Court ruled that transferring him was not in keeping with the Constitution as the post he was transferred to did not exist.

The Supreme Court ruled that Mr. Bernard be reinstated as permanent secretary within the next three months.
