Fall-off in immunisation a major concern for nurses

By Kimone Witter

Nurses Association of Jamaica president Patsy Edwards Henry has speculated that the fall-off in immunisation numbers could be linked to the health system not reconciling data collected from mothers.

The Ministry of Health & Wellness has embarked on a national "catch up" campaign for all vaccines administered to children from birth to 12 years.

Mrs Edwards Henry has told Radio Jamaica News that public health nurses have given the assurance that the numbers should improve by March next year.

The fall-off has been blamed on the attention that was given to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as greater vaccine hesitancy during the period.

She noted as well though that there are other factors to consider, including mothers changing primary healthcare facilities, which affect the collection of data.
