Fiery protest sparked by police shooting of St. Ann man

The Independent Commission of Investigations is probing an incident in which a man was fatally shot by an off-duty policeman in St. Dacre, Alexandria, St. Ann Sunday morning.

The shooting sparked angry protests by residents who reportedly set fire to the house of the policeman's girlfriend, and to the policeman’s private motorcar.

Senior police personnel went into the area to calm the tension.

It's reported that about 9 a.m., the police corporal intervened in a dispute and was allegedly attacked by a man with a machete.

He shot his alleged attacker who was later pronounced dead at hospital.

The deceased was known by his alias, 'Craig'.
