The Ministry of National Security says processing of applications for the group of 37 Haitian nationals who are seeking asylum in Jamaica should conclude in the next few days.
The ministry says an application form has to be completed for each individual which is a pre-requisite to convening the Eligibility Committee to undertake the review of the documents.
It says each applicant has to be interviewed separately, aided by an interpreter to ensure full understanding of the process.
The National Security Ministry says it will request support from the Attorney General's Chambers in reviewing the applications.
Upon completion of the review, a recommendation will be submitted to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, who will consider the findings of the Committee and make a decision in keeping with the options articulated in the 2009 Refugee Policy.
The group of 37 Haitians, including eight children, arrived in Jamaica on July 10.
The 29 adults were convicted of illegal entry on July 18.
Advocacy group Freedom Imaginaires applied for asylum on behalf of the Haitians on July 21.
