Former Petrojam general manager Floyd Grindley and Dr. Perceval Bahado-Singh who served as chairman of the state-run entity are scheduled to return to court Thursday after pleading not guilty this morning to fraud-related charges.

When the matter came up in the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court, the defence and prosecution argued whether restrictive conditions should be imposed on bail for both men.

The prosecutor argued that conditions should be added to bail for Dr. Bahado-Singh and Mr. Grindley because they are dual citizens and might not return to court.

But Dr. Bahado-Singh's attorney, Bert Samuels, responded that his client, who is a green card holder, is not a flight risk.

Mr. Samuels said his client initiated arrangements with MOCA to return to the island.

Mr. Grindley's attorney, Bianca Samuels, argued that he also made arrangements with MOCA to return to Jamaica.

Bail for Mr. Grindley and Dr. Bahado-Singh was extended until their court appearance on Thursday.

Dr. Bahado-Singh is charged with 12 counts of obtaining money by false pretense, while Mr. Grindley is charged with eight counts of aiding and abetting obtaining money by means of false pretense.

It is alleged that between December 2016 and May 2018, Mr. Grindley aided and abetted Dr. Bahado-Singh in fraudulently claiming disbursements from Petrojam amounting to US$73,620 US.

Following the court hearing on Wednesday, Dr. Bahado-Singh's attorney, Bert Samuels, told the media his client had "given back every cent" and did that "because it is consistent with [his] innocence."
