Superintendent Damion Manderson, head of operations for the St. Andrew South Police Division
The police seized an illegal firearm and fourteen rounds of ammunition during a pre-dawn operation on Wednesday in Olympic Gardens, St. Andrew.
Superintendent Damion Manderson, head of operations for the St. Andrew South Police Division, said the raid was aimed at disrupting gang activities in the area.
"This is 14 rounds, possibly 14 lives. This is another firearm that would have been used and could have been used in taking the lives of our fellow Jamaicans; another firearm out of the hands of another criminal gang," he pointed out.
According to the superintendent, there has been a flare up of violence in Tower Hill, Marl Road and Yacca Avenue.
He said the police will continue to pursue gang members and other criminals in St. Andrew South "to ensure that we have a safer police division".
