Trial of Noel Maitland for murder of Donna-Lee Donaldson resumes

The trial of Noel Maitland, the police officer charged in connection with a murder of his girlfriend, Donna-Lee Donaldson, resumed in the Home Circuit Court on Monday afternoon.

He is also charged with preventing the lawful burial of a corpse.

The trial, which adjourned on May 29, resumed with the seventh witness, the chief forensic examiner of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).

Before the adjournment, the examiner, who visited Maitland's Chelsea Avenue, St. Andrew apartment on July 28, 2022, described stains resembling blood on a pair of brown drapery mounted on the northern wall of the living room, leading to the balcony.

He also noted markings on a nearby wall and stains on a cream-coloured cushion cover.

He testified that these items were photographed with and without yellow seal markers and then collected for further analysis.

During Monday's hearing, the drapery and cushion cover were marked for identification.

Photographs of the items and the entrance to the apartment were also shown in court.

During his testimony in May, the examiner also detailed his visit to Donna-Lee's mother's home on July 27, where he collected a green and white synthetic motorised toothbrush.

The 24-year-old popular social media influencer, swimwear entrepreneur and customer service representative, was reported missing on July 13, 2022.

Her mother, Sophia Lugg, testified on May 13 that Constable Maitland had picked up Donna-Lee from her home on July 11, 2022.

Ms. Lugg told the court she last spoke with her daughter on the morning of July 12, 2022, but was unable to reach her afterwards.
