President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, has cancelled his trip to Jamaica.
Mr. Nath Kovind was scheduled to be in the island March 3 and 4 for a working visit.
It's not known why the trip has been called off.
At a news conference on Saturday, Foreign Affairs Minister Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, was asked about the timing of Mr. Nath Kovind's visit in light of India abstaining from the UN Security Council resolution which called for the immediate cessation of violence and withdrawal of Russian military from Ukraine.
At the time, Mrs Johnson Smith explained that the visit had been proposed as "part of a three-country visit, recognising not only the 75th anniversary of Indian independence but the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Jamaica". So, it was "not a thought" that India's position "would overturn the basis on which the visit had been accepted in the first place".
