The low level of COVID-19 vaccination in Jamaica has been cited as the reason for the country's omission from the United Kingdom's revised green travel list.

A number of Caribbean countries including Antigua, Barbados, Barbuda, Dominica and Grenada were added to the list on Thursday.

Persons returning to the UK from countries on the green travel list are not required to self-isolate or quarantine.

Jamaica has again been placed on the amber list.

Travellers from 'amber' countries will be required to quarantine for 10 days, however, not at a government stipulated facility.

Delano Seivright, Senior Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, told Radio Jamaica News that it has been a challenge for Jamaica to be placed on the green list because of the low level of vaccination.

However, he noted that "by the middle of summer, the UK government has clearly indicated that even amber listed countries, their UK travellers will be able to go back to the United Kingdom and not have to quarantine once they are vaccinated."
