A Jamaican-born soldier in the US Army has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping and murder charges in the death of a fellow serviceman.
Jamaal Mellish, who is assigned to Fort Drum in Jefferson County, New York, on Wednesday denied he was involved in the death of Hayden Harris, who was found shot in the head last year.
Mellish, who was formally indicted last week on 11 counts including murder, pleaded not guilty to the allegations before a judge via video-conferencing.
He was remanded and is due back in court on August 18.
Prosecutors say on December 18, Harris was kidnapped, bound, gagged and driven nearly 275 miles to Byram, New Jersey where he was shot.
A motive in the shooting has not been determined.
