A Jamaican woman who was arrested nearly a week ago in the British Virgin Islands on drug charges has been remanded.
Marian Walters broke down in tears during her arraignment in the BVI's Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The 34 year old woman was nabbed at the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport on April 27 after allegedly being found with two kilograms of cocaine worth more than US$200,000 in her luggage.
Miss Walters has pleaded not guilty to unlawful possession of cocaine, unlawful possession of cocaine with intent to supply and unlawful importation of cocaine.
The mother of three said she intends to seek legal representation.
She told the court she went to the BVI on vacation and never expected that this would be the outcome of her visit.
The Jamaican woman said she was offered the trip and had no knowledge of the drugs.
Prosecutor Sarah Benjamin objected to Miss Walters being given bail on the grounds that she has no ties to the BVI and the authorities have no information as to why she visited the island or who she came to visit.
The Jamaican woman is scheduled to return to court on June 9.
