Judge to rule on no-case submission in murder trial of Mavado's son

A trial judge is to rule on Friday whether prosecutors have a case against 18-year-old Dantay Brooks who is on trial for murder.

The judge reserved her decision Thursday afternoon after hearing no-case submissions from the defence.

Mr. Brooks, who is the son of dancehall artiste, Mavado, is charged jointly with 23-year-old Andre Hines for the 2018 murder of Lorenzo Thomas in Cassava Piece, St. Andrew.

Prosecutors reported that on June 5, 2018, men carrying guns and machetes, invaded Mr. Thomas's home.

Mr. Thomas was shot, beheaded and his body set ablaze.

Prosecutors, who closed their case on Wednesday, alleged that the teenager and Mr. Hines were a part of the group which carried out the attack.
