Corporate Communications Manager for the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), Cecil Thoms says the company is now carrying out emergency repairs to its buses in order to boost the fleet for tomorrow's opening of schools.
”Out maintenance team is on the ground, working to bring back as many units into operation. We anticipate increased traffic with the resumption of face to face school. We hope to roll out between 240 and 270 buses. We will be using our articulated buses which are volume units to move increased numbers. In the medium to long term we hope to have 50 additional buses to boost our fleet.”
He is also calling on students to respect the covid protocols the buses.
”I want to remind all of us that we are still in COVID times and I’m appealing to students and commuters to wear their masks and do so for the full length of the journey. While social distancing might not be possible, we need to observe the established health protocols,” he said.
