KSAC erecting protective barrier around Half-Way-Tree clock

Deputy Mayor Winston Ennis of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation

The Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, has started taking steps to secure the space around the Half-Way-Tree clock tower in St. Andrew.

Deputy Mayor Winston Ennis, confirmed that work has started to erect a barrier that will prevent unauthorised entry.

A fire was lit at the base of the clock on the weekend, and it is believed that it was done by a man of unsound mind who occupies the structure.

Mr. Ennis, speaking on RJR's Beyond The Headlines on Monday, gave an update on activities by the Corporation to repair the damage. He said: "By Wednesday of this week, we're going to be cleaning out the clock and we'll be putting in a temporary door there to make sure that no one can get inside to start another fire."

In the meantime, the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation is searching for the man said to be responsible for the fire.

However, the Corporation's motive is to assist and not to prosecute.

"Presently, we have a team outside here trying to see how best we can find this gentleman to take him in to the poor relief department on Hanover Street and have him looked after there," Mr. Ennis declared.
