MAJ awaiting findings of financial review of healthcare system

MAJ President Dr. Brian James

The Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ) says it is anxiously awaiting the results of the review of financing arrangements in the healthcare system.

The review is being conducted by Economist and Executive Director of Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CAPRI) Dr. Damien King, who was appointed in May.

MAJ President Dr. Brian James said healthcare is severely underfunded in Jamaica.

He believes the study is important to understanding the resource and infrastructure challenges in the public health system. In fact, he asserted that the study "promises to be the most important development in the healthcare delivery system almost ever".

The MAJ president said he is hoping to also meet with Dr. King and his team for a discussion on the issue. Additionally, he urged the public to join the conversation.

He was speaking on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.
