More calls for gov't to improve logistics at vaccination centres

Professor Winston Davidson and Denis Chung

There is another call for the Ministry of Health to improve access to the COVID-19 vaccines.

Public Health Specialist Professor Winston Davidson is urging the authorities to iron out logistical challenges as there have been too many instances of  long waiting time at vaccine centres and persons being turned away.

Professor Davidson has also cited the delay in including private medical facilities in the vaccination programe.

"There are in fact...almost 2,000 doctors who are in the private sector, who have patients, and who, if given the opportunity...will have their patients vaccinated in their offices - if [the government] can sit down with the Medical Association of Jamaica and work out the logistics of how we are going to actually do it" he suggested.

Financial analyst Dennis Chung also believes the long wait at vaccination centres can be reduced.

He wants the Health Ministry to create a database to allow persons to fill out forms before visiting the sites.

"If we can create a programme like ENDS so quickly, why can't we create a quick database where people can, whether on their phones, fill it out and it print out right there with the card, or they do it at home and it gives them a numbering system there, or they go to the [web]site itself and fill it out. That way, you also don't need someone to spend an extra five or ten minutes now sitting down in front of somebody to actually give them information for them to put unto the system."

"I estimate that if you were to do all of those simple things, you could increase the capacity at the location itself by about 30 per cent and people would not have to be standing in line and waiting," said Mr. Chung, who was speaking Wednesday on the Morning Agenda on Power 106.
