National Summer School Programme gets underway

The National Summer School Programme started on Monday despite expressions of dissatisfaction from some members of the education sector.

The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) last week expressed disappointment that the Ministry of Education was proceeding with the four-week programme. The JTA wanted the lessons to be suspended to allow teachers to rest.

On Sunday night Radio Jamaica News contacted Linvern Wright, President of the Jamaica Association of  Principals of  Secondary Schools, who said he was unsure whether there would be a significant turnout of  teachers for summer school.

The National Summer School Programme is designed to help students recover from learning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lessons will be delivered using the online and face-to-face modalities.
