NEPA warns against game bird hunting during curfew, no-movement days

Morjorn Wallock, Director of Legal Services and Enforcement at NEPA

The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) has warned game bird hunters to desist from hunting during the curfew and on no-movement days.

The agency on Monday said it received reports that persons were engaged in illegal bird hunting during Sunday's lockdown.

The 2021 Game Bird Hunting Season opened on Saturday.

Morjorn Wallock, Director of Legal Services and Enforcement at NEPA, told Radio Jamaica News that persons were also observed on Saturday "hunting outside of the afternoon session which was supposed to be from 2:30 p.m. to sunset."

She urged hunters "to comply strictly with the times designated for shooting and to have due regard to the no movement days, specifically the no movement day for Sunday."

Ms Wallock said the agency will increase monitoring and enforcement activities to ensure that hunters comply with the Disaster Risk Management Act and the Wild Life Protection Act.

NEPA warned that hunters found in breach will be arrested and charged.
