Nigel Clarke's bodyguard dies in Trelawny crash

A Close Protection Officer assigned to Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke was killed on Thursday afternoon in a motor vehicle crash while escorting the Cabinet member in Falmouth, Trelawny.
 
The officer, who was the sole occupant in the vehicle, has been identified as Sergeant Marlon Smith.
 
Radio Jamaica News was informed that the policeman was driving a Suzuki Vitara which was travelling in front of the vehicle transporting the Finance Minister on the Cooper's Pen Road.
 
Carlos Russell, head of the Trelawny Police Division, told Radio Jamaica News the officer crashed into a truck and his vehicle burst into flames. 
 
The mishap occurred about 5:30 p.m. 
 
It's believed that wet road conditions contributed to the crash. 
 
Radio Jamaica News was told that the Finance Minister and the security team in his vehicle were not injured.
 
It's reported that Dr. Clarke was shaken up by the incident.
