Chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, Owen Ellington, is proposing night-time collection as part of measures to improve efficiency and avoid traffic congestion.
Mr. Ellington says consideration will be given to making a strategic shift to night-time operations for 85 per cent of garbage collections.
He says crews from the NSWMA are competing with traffic during daytime peak hours to collect garbage.
Mr. Ellington is proposing 9 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. garbage collection while the roads are free.
The NSWMA Chairman also suggested increased focus on collections in residential or public commercial areas during these hours.
