Defence attorney Lyndel Wellesley on Tuesday challenged the prosecution's second witness in the One Don Gang trial about his reason for testifying against the 33 defendants.
Mr. Wellesley suggested to the witness that the only reason he volunteered to give evidence against members of the criminal network was because he was a person of interest.
Earlier in the trial, the witness, who is a former don, told the Home Circuit Court that he decided to testify against the alleged gangsters in order to put a stop to their criminal activities.
During cross-examination on Tuesday, Mr. Wellesley, who is representing one of the defendants, Fabian Johnson, told the witness that he decided to assist the police after two of his friends were killed in his car.
The attorney told the court that the witness and two other men were arrested in that incident and the witness was charged with illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Beheading
The former don-turned-state witness told the court that Fabian Johnson bragged about beheading an associate of alleged gang leader Tesha Miller in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
The witness said Mr. Johnson claimed that he carried the head in a bucket for several days.
The court heard that the victim's body was buried in bushes in St. Ann.
