CARICOM Heads "concerned" about US intervention in Venezuela

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Heads of Government held discussions early Saturday morning to discuss the United States invasion of Venezuela and said merely they were "actively monitoring," the situation.

A brief statement issued by the CARICOM Secretariat added that the 15-member regional integration grouping viewed the situation with grave concern for the Region, with possible implications for neighbouring countries.

The two paragraph statement said CARICOM will continue to update the people of the region as more information is received.

In a statement on X, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar of Trinidad & Tobago declared that her administration did not participate in the United States military action against Venezuela, adding that the country continues to maintain peaceful relations with the people of Venezuela.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar has been openly in support of the US plan to deal with what it termed the illegal drugs trade, even as CARICOM has been calling for the region to be maintained as a "Zone of Peace."
