Operations are underway to apprehend the persons who were involved in this morning's attack in Horizon Park in Spanish Town, St. Catherine which left two policemen dead and two others injured.
A constable and a corporal were killed by men with high powered weapons. The injured policemen include well known Superintendent, Leon Clunis. Superintendent Clunis, who underwent emergency surgery, is in critical condition.
The policemen's bullet proof vests were pierced by the bullets. An M16 rifle was seized at the location.
Commissioner of Police Major General Anthony Anderson says intelligence took the eleven member team to a house in Horizon Park about 5 o'clock.
“We had some information that there were gunmen with high powered weapons here and so the team responded with an operation. There was a firefight and four of our members were shot, of which two have succumbed to their injuries,” said Major General Anderson who also made it clear that the police team was not ambushed.
