Violence visited the normally carefree setting of a primary school on Wednesday morning when a parent dropping off his child at Tarrant Primary was shot in the presence of students and teachers.

According to the police, the man had just driven up to the school with his son when a man walked up and shot him.

A team of counselors from the Ministry of  Education was rushed to the school, situated on Molynes Road, in the Jamaican capital, Kingston.

Clinton Dyer, Vice Principal of the school, told RJR News that some students and teachers had witnessed the incident, an experience which deeply traumatized them

“We’ve tried in our best way to keep them calm. There are a number of counselors from the Ministry (of Education), and presently they are addressing the students. A number of parents have come to take their children… and everything has settled down in terms of controlling the kids; they are in their grades and they are being addressed by the counselors,” he explained.
