PNP again urges Auditor-General's probe of FSC

The opposition People’s National Party is again calling for the Auditor General to conduct an investigation of the operations of the Financial Services Commission (FSC).

Mark Golding, PNP President and Leader of the Opposition, declared on Sunday that there is need for transparency and urgent information about the FSC's regulation of the financial sector.

Opposition Spokesperson on Finance Julian Robinson added that the country needs answers to questions surrounding the missing funds.

He said, among the questions that need to be answered is whether tax payers' money was invested in Stocks and Securities Limited.

Mr Robinson and Mr Golding were speaking at a press conference following the PNP’s National Executive Council meeting.

Mr. Robinson is suggesting that overseas investigators be brought in to help gather the evidence necessary for a successful prosecution of those implicated in the Stocks and Securities Limited fraud.

He said, given Jamaica's lack of experience in successfully prosecuting persons accused of white collar crimes, there is need for outside assistance.
