Police release details on shooting involving soldier at Azan Supercentre

The police have released details on Thursday's incident in the car park of Azan Supercentre on Old Hope Road in St. Andrew in which an employee was shot by a member of the Jamaica Defence Force.

The soldier is now under investigation by the St. Andrew Central Police and the military police.

It was reported that about 12:20 p.m., the JDF Corporal was in the car park when he became embroiled in a dispute with the Azan employee.

The soldier allegedly fired twice at the employee.

He later gave a statement to investigators claiming he was acting in self-defence after the employee reportedly pulled a knife on him.

The soldier, who surrendered to the military police Thursday afternoon at Up Park Camp, is to undergo further questioning.

The Azan employee remains in serious condition.
