A police sergeant attached to the Protective Services Division was electrocuted at his home at Eltham Acres, Spanish Town, St Catherine Sunday evening.
He has been identified as Williams Wallace.
The mishap occurred while Sergeant Wallace was in the process of cutting branches from a tree close to Jamaica Public Service high tension wires.
The JPS has appealed to customers to refrain from attempting to cut trees close to power lines.
The company says, while maintenance and trimming of trees on their personal property are the customers' responsibility, they should stay away from trees that are already in contact with power lines, as this may result in electrocution.
