Popular gospel DJ found dead

The police still have no leads into what led to the death of 28-year-old gospel artiste Kasim Grant, whose stage name is ‘Moses'.

His body was found hours after the police were called to the scene of a dispute in which he was involved.

The gospel artiste and evangelist was found dead in a ravine off the Gordon Town road.

The police launched a search for him Monday night, following a shooting in the same area, which left one man with gunshot wounds.

The gospel singer was accused of firing shots at two people, including his uncle's wife, during a dispute in Mammee River, Gordon Town.

The uncle escaped injury but the second man was hit.

He was taken to hospital where he was treated and released.

Following the shooting, the police say the gospel artiste fled the scene.

His body was discovered just after 6:30 Tuesday morning close to the Gordon Town Bridge.

Deputy Superintendent in charge of Crime in the St. Andrew North Police Division Altimorth "Parrow" Campbell told our News Centre, it is not yet clear if he jumped or accidentally fell to his death.

The police are awaiting a post mortem to determine the cause of death.

In one of his gospel hits, Mr. Grant spoke of his rough life growing up in the inner-city community of Rema in Kingston.

He said he lost his father, a known gunman, at a tender age, to the gun.

After himself being shot and seriously injured during a gang feud he claimed to have turned his life over to Christ in 1997.

He later launched a music career featuring in several gospel concerts.

He reportedly also ministered in the inner-cities and has appeared as a guest on TVJ's Religious Hardtalk.
