The police are probing the death of a 10-month-old girl on Monday morning at Bustamante Hospital for Children while undergoing treatment.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that the baby was taken to hospital last Friday with respiratory symptoms and fever.
She was diagnosed with bronchopneumonia and sent home with antibiotics and Panadol.
It's reported that the baby was brought back to hospital the next day and presented with vomiting. The child also looked ill and lethargic.
Blood was also noted in her diaper.
The Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) was contacted and further examination revealed bruises to the body as well as vaginal laceration and bleeding.
Sources revealed that during the weekend her condition deteriorated.
She received multiple transfusions of blood products, however, her condition did not improve.
She was tested positive for dengue at another hospital.
The baby died following an operation.
In the meantime, the Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA), responding to questions from Radio Jamaica News, said it has launched an investigation into the matter and will keep the media updated.
