Three children are now in state care after they were left unattended at a house in Rollington Town, Kingston on Wednesday.

The police removed the nine month old girl, a boy who is nearly two years old and their nine-year-old brother from the house and took them to the Bustamante Hospital for Children.

Radio Jamaica News visited the community and spoke with residents.

They said they heard the children crying.

The siblings reportedly said they were hungry.

A resident said she had been seeking the Child Protection and Family Service Agency's intervention since last year.

"One lady took the case on the tenth of October. I called her back the last part of November to December, before Christmas and asked her, what was happening?...The CDA lady that I spoke to said the field officers weren't there [and] she had given the case to them. They were out in the field [and] she wouldn't be at work the Friday. So on the Monday she would call me. She don't call me back."

The resident said the children were left unattended most days.

"Its an everyday thing. They are here ninety-nine per cent of the time with the 9 year old responsible for the one that (sic) is one year old and the other will be 9 months on the 30th of January," she said.

Public Relations and Communications Manager at the Child Protection and Family Service Agency, Rochelle Dixon told Radio Jamaica News the agency was informed about the children being left unattended but was unable to locate the house.

Their mother reportedly contacted the Child Protection and Family Service Agency on Thursday morning.

An official at the school which the nine-year-old boy attends said he had not logged in to the online platform since classes began.

The official told Radio Jamaica News he was unable to say whether the child had internet access.

He said the school was reaching out to students experiencing challenges.
