The Kingston West Police and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) are searching for gunmen who opened fire on soldiers in Denham Town, Kingston earlier on Tuesday.
The JDF said the military unit was fired on in the vicinity of Race Course and Blount Street.
The fire was returned and the gunmen escaped.
A firearm was found during a subsequent search of the area.
A woman was arrested for reportedly obstructing the security forces during their search.
In a statement, the JDF called for residents of Denham Town to cooperate with the security forces while they conduct operations in the area.
Senior Superintendent Michael Phipps, head of the Kingston West Police, told Radio Jamaica News on the weekend that investigators have received intelligence of a plot by criminal elements to attack and obstruct members of the military in order to disrupt the Zone of Special Operations in Denham Town.
