Private security guards may hear today when they will start receiving benefits in line with the change in their employment status.
The Ministry of Finance has called a media briefing for 3 p.m to address the government's policy on Contracted Security Guard Services with private security firms.
The Jamaica Society for Industrial Security had said it was in discussions with private companies and the government to settle outstanding payments and increased costs to services provided by security companies after the Supreme Court ruled last September that guards employed to Marksman Limited are not contract workers but employees.
Vincent Morrison, President of the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE), says he hopes that all outstanding matters have been resolved and the guards will get their benefits, starting no later than February 1.
"Whether it's vacation leave, overtime, whatever they owe the security guards, they ought to be able to get their benefits," he contended.
Mr. Morrison also renewed his call for security guards to earn more than minimum wage.
